You Can Cook [Community Interest Company]

Our mission statement

‘You Can Cook will encourage and empower local communities to make informed choices about their food and health’.

What is You Can Cook?

You Can Cook will enable all members of the community to engage in a social and educational activity through learning basic techniques and skills in cookery and permaculture; through workshops, talks and screening of documentaries related to food, health and environmental issues. We will help raise awareness of how and where our food comes from. We will also introduce the concepts on the benefits of growing their own food. This can be done either by teaching how to convert their outdoor/indoor spaces into edible gardens or working together in community allotments using permaculture principles.

The project will help support a diversity of sustainable approaches by communities, networks and movements. The project will run cookery classes, demonstrations and workshops in food related issues. You Can Cook is committed to Self-Help and empowering the community to take that step forward in changing their lifestyle for the better.

We will also provide valuable information about nutrition, benefits of organic and non-organic foods, buying local produce, fair trade issues with the ultimate objective being to provide a service that will help anyone and everyone in the community to make an informed choice.

We will also provide budgeting skills and knowledge about additives, flavourings, pesticides, fertilisers, E numbers,etc.....

Individuals from the community will be bringing their own expertise and knowledge to the classes alongwith local chefs.

You Can Cook is a positive affirmation for all, its a skill we all have to varying degrees.

We are what we eat, that means, if we nourish our bodies in an appropriate way, we are able to achieve better health.

It is important to relax when eating your food and to give total attention to enjoying your food.

Above all take satisfaction in the cooking and joy in the eating.

Our service will help absolute beginners to individuals who can cook but feel they need that extra motivation to experiment and try different foods and cuisine's.
