Senior Executive Programme

Scottish Business in the Community

Since 1983 the Senior Executive Programme’s parent organisation, Scottish Business in the Community, has been in the forefront of promoting the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility in Scotland. It firmly believes that no business can exist in isolation but relies on its community for its workforce, its customers and its suppliers. A community can either be geographic or sharing a common interest.

Good community relations simply make sound business sense.

A registered charity, Scottish Business in the Community is largely funded by contributions from around a hundred "subscribing member" companies across Scotland. An enthusiastic management team at Head Office in Edinburgh is led by Samantha Barber, Chief Executive. It has close links with its sister organisation in England, Business in the Community, but the Scottish operation is independent with its own Board of Directors.

Scottish Business in the Community sees its principal role as supporting, brokering and challenging organisations to make a positive impact on society. A network of local groups has been developed to promote private sector engagement with Scotland’s communities. In the Borders, following work piloted in the regeneration areas of Langlee (Galashiels) and Burnfoot (Hawick), Scottish Business in the Community seeks to encourage socially responsible business practice throughout the region as part of its new Rural Programme.

The Senior Executive Programme is one of several initiatives managed by Scottish Business in the Community, each tailored to meet the particular needs of the community, whether rural or inner city.
