  • We raise funds as a registered charity for projects in Africa.

OUR AIMS

  • To increase the understanding of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and its devastating social , educational and health effects on Africa.
  • To identify and support health, educational and community projects in Africa in order to help those infected and affected by AIDS.
  • To raise funds to support this work.

OUR ACTIVITIES

  • We hold public meetings in various Borders locations to further our aims.
  • We develop contacts with people and organisations in the UK who may be able to assist with these aims.
  • We co-operate with other organisationsand participate in events which may further the groups aims.
  • We arrange fundraising events.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN US

You can help us to be more effective in highlighting the effects of this appalling pandemic which kills 3 million people each year ( a total of 40 million since its start).

Even if you do not have the time to become actively involved your support will help others to carry out this work.

Some of the Projects we have supported in 2005:

All projects are known personally to SBAAG members and our donations go directly to the projects.

  • The Sandy Logie Clinic at St. Francis Hospital, Zambia.
  • ITEZO orphan secondary school fees in Zambia.
  • Medical Missionaries of Mary in Malawi.
  • The Raphael's Centre for AIDS patients in South Africa.
  • Income generation projects in Kenya.

With more money we could more. Please support us.

What you get from joining us

  • News of local activitiesand global actions to help prevent HIV/AIDS in Africa.
  • Access to lectures, social events and fundraising to support projects in Africa.
  • The opportunity to meet others in the Borders who share the same concerns.

Facts and Figures

  • 40 million people in the world are living with HIV/AIDS, of which 70% are in Africa (29 million).
  •  5 million new infections every year.
  •  3 million died in 2004.
  • 12 million AIDS orphans in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Did you know?

  • The only painkiller available to many Africans living with AIDS is paracetamol.
  • AIDS affects young African adults, especially women. The grand-parents are often left in charge of the orphans with little or no financial support.

One hour of your time can help to raise awareness of the issue, or to help organise fundraising.

A few pounds can help an AIDS sufferer to have something stronger than paracetamol to relieve his pains.

£300 pounds per year will provide the fees, food and books for one year of secondary school for an AIDS orphan in Zambia.
