What we do

The Federation was formed in 1970 to assist village halls within the County of Peeblesshire; to co-ordinate their activities; to represent them in their relationship with local authorities, statutory bodies and other organisations. It meets at least once a year – more often if there are particular issues to be discussed or needing action. The secretariat is provided by the Tweeddale Area Manager of The Bridge who provides information and support throughout the year and ensures that information is shared between the halls. Training seminars are organised when a need is identified and a village halls handbook was produced in 2007.

Village halls in the area provide accommodation for the following services:

·      Mother and toddler groups
·      Playgroups
·      Nurseries
·      After-school clubs
·      Uniformed organisations
·      Exercise classes such as keep fit, yoga, pilates
·      Carpet bowling
·      Badminton
·      Theatrical and musical productions
·      Art exhibitions
·      Wedding receptions
·      Dances
·      Birthday parties
·      Community Council meetings
·      Church meetings
·      Coffee mornings and other fundraising events
·      MP’s and MSP’s surgeries
·      Polling stations
·      Lunch clubs
