Essential community projects face an uncertain future if funding is not secured for Scotland's village halls, MSPs have been told.

A peitition, signed by more that 6,250 people, was pressented to Parliament by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) Rural Affairs team calling for the government to allocate greater resources to the country's estimated 3,000 village halls, many of then in rural settings. 

MSPs of all parties have expressed support for the campaign.   

Sandra Hogg, SCVO information officer said "A village hall is often the only place people can get together.  It is what holds the community together".  

A number of MSPs have pledged to support the cause by writing to the lottery to ask if cash can be made available.
