Welcome to I Create...

I Create is an arts unit based at Lanark Lodge in Duns, a day support service for adults who have a learning disability.

The unit was set up in response to a growing interest and enthusiasm amongst service users who have been involved in a variety of different arts projects.  It is providing opportunities for individuals to explore, express and gain confidence through participating in exhibitions, performances and learning new skills.

Creativity and the arts is particularly relevant to individuals who use support services as it offers opportunities to share in an experience equally with others through self expression.  It can also challenge perceptions in relation to disability and work positively towards anti-discriminatory attitudes and social inclusion.

The unit works in partnership with other related organisations and individuals. We work with community artists, support services, local support groups, schools and colleges to develop opportunities for individuals and groups to participate in a variety of arts projects.

Our aims and objectives

We aim to:

  • provide a safe, creative and intellectual environment for an individual to express with confidence
  • support artists with a learning and/or physical disability
  • promote artistic value and ownership
  • create the opportunity to learn new skills and to attend and facilitate related educative workshops
  • encourage, support and enhance expression and individuality through creativity
  • create communities of artistic interest which encourage the integration of people with and without a learning disability.

Lanark Lodge is part of the Learning Disability Service provided by the Social Work Department at Scottish Borders Council.
