Galashiels Amateur Operatic SocietyIt is a pleasure to welcome you to the Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society website, which will provide information of our forthcoming production. Since the Society was established in 1906 it has aimed to bring light-hearted entertainment to the community through a variety of musical productions. In the early years the Society relied on the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. As the influence of Hollywood crossed the Atlantic livelier productions were staged, continuing through to the modern shows of today. As with most Societies we rely a great deal on the public for their support along with our many patrons and sponsors and hope this year will be no exception. Of course, all shows take a great deal of planning and organisation and could not be achieved without the hard work and dedication, not only of those directly involved, but by the vast number of volunteers who continue to support the Society in a number of ways. For 2009/10, the Society has chosen to perform Rogers and Hammerstein's 'Showboat' by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd. This show was first performed by the Galashiels Society in 1962 and again in 1984. This is a colourful and vibrant show, a big cast with good music which includes the well known songs, 'Ol' Man River' and 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man'. Performance dates are from 1st to 6th March 2010 in the Volunteer Hall Galashiels.
