Galashiels Amateur Operatic SocietyIt is a pleasure to welcome you to the Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society website, which will provide information of our forthcoming production. Since the Society was established in 1906 it has aimed to bring light-hearted entertainment to the community through a variety of musical productions. In the early years the Society relied on the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. As the influence of Hollywood crossed the Atlantic livelier productions were staged, continuing through to the modern shows of today. As with most Societies we rely a great deal on the public for their support along with our many patrons and sponsors and hope this year will be no exception. Our Centenary Year was undoubtedly a huge success from the Concert in October, the Exhibitions, our show 'Oliver' in March, concluding with a Centenary Dinner in May 2007. Of course, all these events take a great deal of planning and organisation and could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication, not only of those directly involved, but by the vast number of volunteers who continue to support the Society in a number of ways. For 2007/08, the Society has chosen to perform Sandy Wilson's THE BOY FRIEND, by arrangement with Samuel French Limited, from the 3rd to 8th March 2008 in the Volunteer Hall Galashiels. This particular show has not been staged by the Company before and is a frivolous and lighthearted production. Set in the 1920's, in a finishing school for young ladies, it has all the sophistication and gaiety of the era, coupled with good old fashioned romance.
