Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society website, which will provide information of our forthcoming production.

Since the Society was established in 1906 it has aimed to bring light-hearted entertainment to the community through a variety of musical productions. In the early years the Society relied on the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. As the influence of Hollywood crossed the Atlantic livelier productions were staged, continuing  through to the modern shows of today.

As with most Societies we rely a great deal on the public for their support along with our many patrons and sponsors and hope this year will be no exception.

Our Centenary Year was undoubtedly a huge success from the Concert in October, the Exhibitions, our show 'Oliver' in March, concluding with a Centenary Dinner in May 2007.  Of course, all these events take a great deal of planning and organisation and could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication, not only of those directly involved, but by the vast number of volunteers who continue to support the Society in a number of ways.

For 2008/09, the Society has chosen to perform George Bernard Shaw's play, (Pygmalion) by arrangement with MusicScope and Stage Musicals Limited of New York, better known today as 'MY FAIR LADY' from the 2nd to 7th March 2009 in the Volunteer Hall Galashiels.  This show was adapted for the musical theatre by Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe and has become a legend in musical history.
