EDDLESTON CURLING CLUB 150TH ANIVERSARY 2006 Eddleston Curling Club was formed in 1856 and joined the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in November of that year. 2006 saw the 150th Anniversary of the club and a series of events was held to celebrate that auspicious achievement. Marking the occasion were several local events to raise awareness of the sport in our local community and to encourage others to try curling and participate in the club's activities. At the same time the club want to educate young and old on the history of curling and the development of the club over the last 150 years from curling on local ponds, such as Portmore and West Loch, to the development of the indoor game in nearby Edinburgh and Kelso. Eddleston also helped form the Peeblesshire Province, a collection of local clubs across Peeblesshire who shared a common interest to promote the sport and participate in District and national competitions. There were also events for primary and secondary school pupils in the village and a wider programme for other local people. Part of this was an opportunity for some hands on action with taster sessions in new age Kurling, an indoor game without any ice (!) and a conventional game at Murrayfield ice rink, for beginners.
