Who are we?

We are a community organisation set up by local people and local community groups to work towards improving life and opportunities for people in the Earlston area.

We grew out of the now defunct Earlston Village Association (EVA) aim to establish and run a Community Centre within Earlston and to continue EVA’s good work.

We are a registered company and have applied to be a registered charity with powers to raise money by public subscription, council and government grants and the National Lottery.

We are working with other local groups and agencies, such as Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders, to achieve our aims of meeting community needs.

In the past (including EVA) we have run Open Days, carried out community surveys, helped other local community groups and published the Whats on Guide to Earlston.

Our Main

Objective

Or main objective is to create a community centre to be run by and for the use of the community of Earlston.

The last time Earlston had a public hall it was the Corn Exchange next to the Reading Room.

Earlston had various other halls in its day- the West Church became a shop (lately demolished to make way for housing) and the large Church of Scotland Hall (formerly the United Free Church) was demolished in 1990.

The small Church of Scotland Hall still exists and is heavily used but cannot be used for functions contrary to Church of Scotland beliefs.

Plan

The Trust is a Company Limited by Guarantee and has applied to become a Registered Charity.

This gives the Trust a legal status which will allow us to apply for grants from government and other sources, such as the National Lottery Fund.

To become a Company we have drawn up a Memorandum and Articles of Association ( a set of rules to govern the operation of the Company) to obtain registration at Companies House, to see our registration form press here.

To justify becoming a registered charity we have to drawn up a draft Business Plan to illustrate the viability of the Company for at least the next two years.
