Tweeddale & Roxburgh Thrift Shops Our Thrift Shops are good examples of how social enterprises works. Staffed by a manager and a dedicated team of volunteers, the funds raised from the sale of donated clothes, bric-a-brac, books and toys provide additional income towards various local projects and so ultimately money is ploughed back into the community we serve. But they are more than this. Thrift Shops also serves as: - A drop in centre for a chat.
There is always a friendly atmosphere in the shop - you always see someone to talk to and there is always something going on. - A local information point.
We display posters and information about local groups. - Good quality low cost clothing.
We only accept good quality clothes and our low pricing ensures a fast turnover of stock. - Volunteering opportunities.
From window dressing to serving customers, if you have a couple of hours to spare, it's a great way to spend your time and you could be learning new skills! - Your chance to be environmentally friendly.
By recycling donated goods, we are cutting down on waste, which can only be a good thing. Surplus clothing and shoes are sent to the developing world for re-use or are recycled here and abroad to make new clothing or fibres – so nothing is lost. - Jigsaw Library (In Tweeddale Thrift Shop).
There are over 200 members of the jigsaw library which is run in the shop. Registration is free and members pay 50p per month for each jigsaw borrowed
