| Childcare Partnership and Early Education
The Early Education and Childcare Partnership staff training and development programme is for anyone who is working or volunteering with children in a childcare or early education setting, including childminders, or for those who wish to take up employment opportunities in this setting in the future. The programme is produced annually, with periodic updates throughout the year. It is distributed to all early education and childcare centres and is also available from the Early Education and Childcare Team and on the Childcare Partnership website: www.childcareborders.co.uk The programme includes a variety of short courses and training events which take place throughout the year. Some of these are linked to national initiatives such as ICT in the Early Years, Infection Control and the Scottish Social Services Council Codes of Practice. Others are organised in response to requests from providers such as Fun Sport and Team Games, Art Attack and Food Handling and Hygiene. Opportunities are also available for staff to undertake formal and accredited qualifications such as SVQs and HNCs in child care and early education related subjects.
The Scottish Childminding Association, the Scottish Pre-School Play Association, Scottish Borders Out of School Care Network and the Borders Independent Nurseries Network also arrange training and courses in the Borders. Whilst some of these are restricted to their own members, some can also be accessed by non-members.

A number of courses have been designed to support staff in local authority nursery schools and classes, partner provider centres and teaching staff in P1-P3 in primary schools. The course descriptor will indicate whether the training is specifically aimed at pre-school or early years staff; staff from across the different sectors and age ranges are however, welcome to attend any courses in the directory that will support their development. The range of courses has been designed to meet identified needs across the early years sector; it is unlikely, however that the needs of all individuals and establishments will be met in the time available. It is proposed that customised programmes will be available on request. These will be planned with individual establishments and where possible delivered in-house.
