BFCVS, Borders Forum of Councils for Voluntary Service, the four CVSs in Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway Federation of Councils for Voluntary Service and the four CVSs in Dumfries and Galloway formed the South of Scotland Network of Councils of Voluntary Service (SoSNet) for the purpose of sharing expertise and developing services.

This project was part funded by European Regional Development Objective 2 funding and operated from 2001 until March 2007.

The funding was used to increase the level of service offered by the CVS in the South of Scotland.

The funding contributed to the costs of development work and administrative staff in each CVS. These staff provided capacity building and community development support to communities and social economy organisations. The support included assistance with:

  • Funding strategies; development of constitutional, charitable and company structures: entrepreneurial and income generating actions; employment contracts and disclosure work; good practice, policies and procedures; initial project management; committee skills and other tailored training; signposting and back up office services such as payroll and administration.
  • assisting community engagement in the Community planning processes by working with all partners to ensure joined up delivery of support to social economy organisations and communities and effective representation and public involvement in decision making.

SoSNet had three staff members: a Project Manager, a Marketing and Communications Officer and a Monitoring and Finance Officer. These staff concentrated on developing the organisational systems of the CVS network so that they could offer a better service to communities and voluntary organisations.
