Local Action by Local People

Burnfoot Our Vision for the Future

The "Burnfoot Vision for the Future" has been prepared to summarise the main views that have been expressed by local people and organisations when asked what they hoped Burnfoot would be like in 10 years time .....

"The kind of place we want Burnfoot to be"

We will build on our history of being a close knit caring community with fine houses and a good school, to re-establish Burnfoot as a great place to live and to bring up a family.

Main strategies and priorities:

  • Improving Social and Community Services & Facilities
  • Providing more facilities for young people
  • Improving the local environment
  • Improving community safety.

Following on from the Launch of the Action Plan in April  four  working groups have been set up -  one for each of the main strategies working with a variety of agencies i.e. SBC Lottery Officer, Young Scot Borders, Dialogue Youth, Scottish Borders Childcare Partnership, SBC Community Learning and Development, NHS Borders Health Promotion, Transport Together (part of WRVS), Elder Voice, Scottish Executive Transport Department, The Bridge - Roxburgh, Borders Housing Network, SBC Social Work Department, Hawick Health Centre and local residents and many more .......
The Management Committee (formerly the Steering Group will oversee the four working groups).

If you would like to become part of one of these working groups please do not hesitate to contact Zoe Hall on 01450 372285.

Scottish Borders Local Community Action Planning Programme

The New Ways Community Planning Partnership for the Scottish Borders supported the preparation and development of the Local Community Action Plan (LCAP) with the aim of implementing a rolling programme of Local Community Action Planning across the Scottish Borders, setting out a process for the co-ordinated involvement of agencies, in the engagement of local communities with Community Planning.

The Partnership hopes that this process will lead to strong plans and strong communities who are capable of taking actions locally and who have the ability to effectively represent their communities' interests - locally, Borders-wide and nationally.

Funding for the Burnfoot LCAP Pilot was provided by the New Ways Partnership, comprising Scottish Borders Council, NHS Borders, Scottish Enterprise Borders, VisitScotland Borders, Borders College and Communities Scotland (through their Regeneration Outcome Agreement funding).
