This Year's Show

This year’s show will include a wide variety of entertainment for all the family, plus livestock classes and horse jumping. A new feature of the show this year will be poultry classes, for which we already have an encouraging entry, and is well supported from afar afield as Peebles and Lanarkshire. The sheep lines will also be well supported, with entries on par with last year, especially the Texel and Blackface sections. All horse sections are sure to be hotly contested and we are very pleased with the entries especially with Hendersyde on the same weekend. The Hunter class is a qualifier for Thirlestane, ensuring that the quality of entry will be high.

The Main programme in the afternoon will be a treat with a brilliant falconry display and some very clever gun dogs demonstrating their abilities. A very popular feature of last year’s show will be back again – the pony club will perform a musical ride in formation which they have perfected at their recent camp. It is excellent to get the local children involved with the main events of the show to demonstrate their talents to the community. Another interesting feature of this year’s show will be a fly fishing demonstration by Peter Anderson, who for those not in the know, is a very well respected member of the angling fraternity – so all those with a passion for fishing can brush up on skills. Education and fun are the key words for little tykes this year. The Royal Highland Education Trust and Borders Forestry Trust are teaming up to get kids involved in the countryside with activities around the showfield.

We are especially pleased with the quality of the craft tent this year, as it is entirely local with some very talented people to provide great quality and individual gifts – or just indulgence for your own home, wardrobe or garden! The variety of trade stands is particularly wide, and we are well subscribed, promising to make it a vibrant, friendly and sociable day out for everyone. Don’t forget the vintage sections and also back by the popular demand are the classic cars. We are indebted to our sponsors, especially The Royal Bank of Scotland and Adam & Co, but also all the smaller businesses and individuals who underpin the financial support of the show allowing the committee to produce such a diverse, attractive event.
