Award Ceremony

It comes to a time when you have been working very hard on whichever subject you are doing that your Tutor can put you forward for the Adult Learner Awards. It can be very exciting. Especially if you have never been put forward for an award before. We all went to Heriot Watt University in Galashiels, it was a great night. When you walk in you go into a big hall. There are lots of round tables which seat about 10 people. The hall is packed full of people who are learners in all different types of Adult Education. The atmosphere is formal. We all appreciate what each person or group has done.

There is a finger buffet with drinks, either wine, fruit juice or water. Once everyone has settled down then the ceremony begins. They have someone to do a speech, then in sections depending which subject you are on they call your name, on your own or as part of a group go up and receive your award. You get a certificate and a £10.00 book voucher. After everyone has received their award they have a section winner who gets another certificate and a college course voucher to help them to keep their work going at college. After that they have an over all winner, they get a framed certificate and also a voucher to help them keep their studies going. After the presentation is over there are photos taken. It was a great night for everybody and we all went home full of excitement.

in Melrose 2008

March 25th 2008
Borders Adult Learners Awards
Corn Exchange, Melrose
Second Chance Academy were invited to the awards. Catherine Hadshar our tutor gave Victoria and I gave us a lift to Melrose.
When we got there the hall was quite full, there was a table with some nibbles, wine and cold drinks. The presentations started at 7 pm, at the beginning the Provost of Melrose William Windram said a few words,
then the chairman of the judges Robert Waddell. John Swinney MSP gave an address. The awards were given out by John Swinney. We at the Second Chance Academy were given an award for our effort in our microsite.
There was a group there from Selkirk, called the Silver Surfers from the age 40’s, and into their 60 s. They were quite proud at getting an award.
The evening ended with a vote of thanks.
