Working with young people Community Learning & Development support and deliver a wide range of youth work opportunities for young people throughout the Scottish Borders in partnership with voluntary and community groups. In the Scottish Borders we recognise that youth work is an educational practice contributing to young people’s learning and development. Youth work engages with young people within their communities; it acknowledges the wider networks of peers, community and culture; it supports the young person to realise their potential and to address life’s challenges critically and creatively. Although, the focus is on the eleven to twenty-five years age group with particular emphasis on eleven to eighteen year olds, we acknowledge the need to connect effectively with early intervention programmes and provision which focuses on children under eleven years. In order that children and young people achieve the most they can we provide a range of locally based activities, learning opportunities and structures that enable them to gain a voice, influence and place in society.

Dialogue YouthThe aim of Dialogue Youth is to work with service providers and young people in the design, development and delivery of services, in order to ensure that they are accessible, inclusive and responsive to young people’s needs. A further part of the work of Dialogue Youth, is the provision of accessible and relevant youth information, which is delivered primarily through the Young Scot Borders website. The site contains details about local youth groups, specialist services, upcoming events and opportunities for young people to get more involved in their communities. The website is written by young people and is linked to the WIRED radio show and the YOB page within the Southern Reporter.
