RAW LITERACY RaW is a new BBC Campaign that aims to reach 12 million UK adults and encourage them to read and write more. It is aimed at people with intermediate reading and writing skills (for us in Scotland, that means Access 3/Intermediate level). It focuses on informal learning, is a 3-year campaign and will involve broadcasts, publishing, online learning and on the ground activities. It aims to get people reading and writing more through focusing on their own interests and passions. Local involvement is through signing up to be a RaW centre. Local libraries are all RaW centres with an agreed level of involvement. RaW centres will have free resources available to learners including: - magazines
- Eastenders DVD (literacy-based game)
- 4 quizzes
- stickers
- scratch cards.
|
RaW centres can: - signpost people to further support and activities (e.g. Learning for All and Help Yourself to Learning).
- make RaW resources available
- support people to access online learning through RaW website
- host RaW quizzes and use resources to complement existing activity
The website is magazine style and has: - games and quizzes
- some informal self-assessment exercises to assess literacy skills
- book recommendations
- signposting to RaW centres.
