About Lipreading Classes Lipreading classes take place in small, friendly groups. The aim is to help you feel more confident about your deafness and to cope better with day to day living. The classes last for about two hours and are free of charge.
Anyone with any degree of hearing loss is welcomePeople attend lipreading classes for a variety of reasons. Some are referred by professionals, some have seen the promotional literature and some have heard from friends. You may, for example, want to join a class if you notice that you need the television louder or you often miss out on conversations. What other class members have said Class members are very positive about the benefits of meeting with others who share their difficulties with hearing. Many have benefitted from increased self confidence, knowledge and skills. "I am more relaxed about my deafness and coping with life." About the classesLipreading groups are small, friendly and informal with people sitting in a horseshoe shape. Each group has a maximum of 12 people to take account of: - the need for everyone to be close enough to lip read and have a clear view of each other
- the size of the loop system
- the length of time of each lesson
- the flow of the lesson.
