Borders Healthy Living Network

In 2003, with Big Lottery funding Borders Healthy Living Network started to establish a network of skilled, paid and voluntary staff to develop a range of health related activities and opportunities within five localities. Four years on from this, having demonstrated the value of a community development approach to health improvement, HLN has been granted continued funding from NHS Borders and partner agencies through our local Joint Health Improvement Team.
Borders HLN operates within a range of accessible community settings for example, community centres, village halls and schools. Our network is not about physical buildings but about activities and locating these in environments which have been identified by community members as comfortable. Our ethos is one which promotes inclusion and equality and we strive to provide activities which meet the broadest health needs of our communities.
|
| We are committed to joint working with our partner agencies and experience has demonstrated the advantages of pooling resources and skills. We are currently based in venues which enable us to develop our partnership working with two HLN Project Worker staff covering the five localities. The activities which were previously funded by Big Lottery have either gone on to become self-financing, supported by partner agencies or have come to a natural end. As HLN is now in its first year of JHIT funding both workers are developing new Health Improvement programmes within their localities in partnership with other agencies and community members.
