Interested in caring for children? Scottish Borders Council's Family Placement Team are looking to recruit foster families across the Borders who can offer:
- short term fostering
- permanent fostering
- respite or short breaks care.
There are approximately 82 children in temporary foster care across the Borders, compared with 69 children two years ago. This increase means that it is vital that we continue to recruit new carers. What is fostering?Fostering is looking after someone's child in your own home at a time when his or her family are unable to do so. This may be for a few days, months or in some cases, for years. A child may need to be fostered for a number of reasons - such as family illness, relationship difficulties, family breakdown or perhaps a situation where the child or young person's safety is threatened. Any child of any family may need to use foster care. It is not just a service for those experiencing poverty, poor housing, family breakdown or abusive situations. Every child and their family are unique; no two family’s circumstances will be the same.
